A few days ago I caught this snapshot of my 70-year-old neighbor walking home with her grandchild. This is a common sight. In this culture, often, the women do the work, while the men sit in the teahouses and play backgammon. This is very hard for a westerner to understand. It certainly is difficult for me to accept. The ruined hands and wrinkled faces are telltale signs of a harsh life. I admire these courageous women who are able to laugh and enjoy life amidst such living conditions.
