We are preparing for Easter this year by making a replica of the tomb in a garden. It is the centerpiece of our dining table. We've carved a caterpillar from soap and tomorrow night (Good Friday) we will close the tomb. This lovely idea came from Ann's blog and we're so grateful for the inspiration.

What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! We're just finishing up making our Easter garden. (Easter is next week for us.) I'll post pictures of it soon.

What a beautiful idea. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Lindafay!
ReplyDeleteWell...our "tomb" came out a little more rudimentary than your lovely garden...however, it works for us ! Thanks so much for this idea...we have cleared our family altar of all its usual trimmings...leaving an empty space, with only this tomb in the center...it has provided a beautiful reflection for us on this HOLY SATURDAY! We thought you might like to stop by and see ours:

Thanks again, and have a BLESSED EASTER!
Very pretty. I will need to keep this in mind for next year.
ReplyDeleteWe made one too! Thank you for the lovely idea. We ended up using a gecko house that we found at the pet store for our tomb. Love your website. It has been so helpful to me as I try to implement many of Charlotte Mason's ideas into our homeschooling life. Bless you this Easter!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting. I have to check Ann's blog out.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea.Unfortunately we are to late to do it this year.hope you had a blessed Easter.:o)
ReplyDeleteThe kids awoke to an empty tomb and a butterfly in the tree beside it. They loved it.
ReplyDeleteMarla,
I only show my delicious links for a few weeks. So you will have to get them while they are hot : )

ReplyDeleteI have a question related to the curriculum that your family used(s). Regarding history, what if I were to use your list of books and history rotation starting in the 3rd grade; would my child have lost a lot of history knowledge not having studied the history you list in Year 1 and 2? (Although n year 1, we did use A Child's History of the World and completed the whole book that year.) -CMgirl
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your wonderful website. You have given me a lot of insight into making CM doable for me and my family. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteLindafay,
ReplyDeleteI have a 1st,3rd and 5th grader ages 6,8 and 11.
We would like to follow your schedule next year. The books we have read in History, Literature and free reading are all falling about one year behind your schedule.Would you double up or just start where they are at? Thank you for all of the great posts! :o)
beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCM girl,
ReplyDeleteThey would miss out on a some US history and not remember much of CHOW since you read it so quickly at a young age. They can cover world history, however, in Year 6. You would somehow need to cover some American colonization (If you are an American) and the US revolution. You can cheat a little and use some historical fiction and D'Aulaire books to do this, but don't cram. You could just read excerpts from TCOO. They won't cover US history again until year 9 but they need to be familiar with some main events before then so that they can better understand their other schoolbooks, literature and our present culture.
Toodlebugz,
Help me out a little. Are they all in various years or together for History? Are you planning on putting them together in the same year, if so, what year? If not, what years? All those details are important for me to be able to address your question more carefully. Thanks, lindafay
Lindafay,
ReplyDeleteThey are all in separate years for History, currently 1st,3rd and 5th.I am planning on keeping them separate going into the fall term at grades 2nd,4th & 6th.
Hope this helps.:o)
Toodlebugz,
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would start where they left off since it is only a one year difference. I wouldn't do this if it were more than a year difference. e.g. year one is perfectly fine for a second grader but not a third grader.

Thank you Lindafay.I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.:o)
