Year 4 Exams- Term 3

This is what Pippi, my newly turned 10 year old, is doing this week. When I gave her the paper, she looked it over and then told her dad a few minutes later while literally bopping up and down at the breakfast table, "I am so excited about today." When he asked her why, she replied, "Because it is exam week. I love exams!" I then asked her why she liked exam week and she told me it was because it is fun to tell what she knows. This is exactly what Miss Mason wanted examinations to be- a record of what the child knows-'Show and Tell time', if you will, NOT a record of wrongs that only serve to discourage the child. At the same time, they need to be rigorous, motivating the student to do her best. I consider these examinations to be a nice way to wrap up the term, providing one last review that will place ideas permanently into a child's knowledge bank.

SCIENCE & NATURE
Living World Encyclopedia
What is a rainforest? Describe the canopy and what kind of life lives in it. Describe the rainforest floor and what can be found in it as well.

It Couldn't Just Happen
Answer TWO of the following questions:

Tell about some amazing things in the human body.
Who was Piltdown man?

Turn in your Nature Journal. You should have drawn and colored at least 6 birds that you have observed this term. Describe some of their habits that you have noticed.

Choose ONE person from below. Write a short biography about the man.

LITERATURE
Merry Adventures of Robin Hood
What is a hero? Was Robin Hood a hero? Why or why not?

Age of Fable
Pretend you are telling a bedtime story to some children. Record your voice as you tell aloud an exciting story from Age of Fable that you read this term.

Shakespeare
You are a playwright like Shakespeare. Write a short scene from As You Like It. Make sure the characters names and the setting are listed at the beginning of your page.

MATH
You will be given a timed multiplication test by mom.

Turn in your Math notebook.

CITIZENSHIP
Plutarch’s Lives
What do you know about Crassus? Tell about his strengths and weaknesses.

COMPOSER STUDY
Tell about the life of Richard Wagner. Tell about one of his works.

ARTIST STUDY
Name the two artists we studied this term and list their works that you can remember. Choose your favorite and describe it in detail or draw a sketch of it. How does it make you feel?

DRAWING
Draw 50 People
Draw a person from memory that you have previously drawn from your drawing book.

RECITATION/READING
Recite a poem from this term’s poet, a psalm, and a scripture passage.

LATIN/GREEK ROOTS
English from the Roots Up
Name the roots you can remember that you learned this term and say their definitions. Also, share the words that you learned that have these roots in them. State each definition if you did not know it previously.

MUSIC
Choose one song from your keyboard book to play for mom.

SINGING
Sing one folksong and one hymn you learned this term.

  1. This is a very helpful post! If our prayers are answered and we go "back home" this year I will return to this for ideas for our exams.

  4. My boys love exam time too. We have an exam week that culminates in a "celebration". We put on display artwork and projects and invite a few family members over to share in any performances and a meal.

    It is a time we look forward to.

    Your exam looks perfect. I will have to post our last exam one of these days.

  5. That is so neat that your daughter loves exam time! My daughter is 7 and we haven't tried exams like this. How young do you start?

    Also, I'm just impressed with all you've covered with her this term. I, sadly, couldn't answer many of those questions!
