Field Trip- The Mediterranean Sea

Roadside sellers spread their wares.

Ancient Didyma, Ephesus and Sardis are on the Aegean Sea.

Faces

Olive groves are all over Turkey.
An old Crusader Castle near Ancient Nicaea where the Nicene Creed was written.

Every village has a mosque, so we passed many. We hear the call to prayer five times a day.
We also passed several miles of wild poppies.

We took a boat trip to various coves and snorkeled.

While swimming we saw a sea turtle as large as a car but I couldn't get its picture in time. The water is crystal clear.

Our boat towed this little boat. You will notice a Turkish woman rolling out flat bread for our lunch- a floating kitchen.
My little captain.

My two handsome men.
If you click on the second pic you will notice two women sitting on the beach. One is fully covered, the other is topless.

Hotel fun

Home again and back to reality.

  1. Looks as though you had a wonderful time. It's always so nice to go on holiday. Turkey looks to be simply beautiful, and much simpler, in some ways, and I'm certain more difficult in others.

By the way, how did you end up with a red head? I've meant to ask before. Is your husband fair in color, because it appears as though all of your other children favor you. Is she your oldest?

    Good to have you back!

Wow, it looks like your family had a great time. My husband would have loved the chess board....if he had someone to play with, my 8 year old isn't quite up to his level and well neither am I for that matter.

    Linda,
What beautiful water! I pray you all had a wonderful holiday!

Living in South Florida, the issue of "lack of clothing" or "lack of simwear" comes up alot. How do you deal with that? I can use some creativity in this area. Who thought we'd have something in common with where we live?

I missed your blog while you were gone! Glad you had a nice time!

    Grace and Peace,
    Betty

  10. I enjoy seeing your pictures!
    The sea looks beautiful.
When we swim in 'our' Atlantic Ocean we are often close to sea turtles... none as big as cars!
Our turtles are about 2 feet long.

  11. Looks like a great vacation. No wonder it's been awhile since your last post.

I am glad you are having a good summer.

Were those apartments in the last pic where you live now? Somehow I pictured more of a rural, rustic area. Did you move?

  12. Dear Linda,
I wanted to tell you something fun! At the moment I am printing out your Year 1 Program and Booklist beacuse tonight I am meeting with another mom who is going to start year 1 with her son in the fall.

I am bringing your list and she is bringing Ambleside's list and we are going to compare. We are both really excited! I am so happy to have a real live Charlotte Mason homeschooling friend! Isn't that great?!

  15. Kim, we are very proud of the fact that we have a red head :) My husband has red in his beard so I guess it is from his side. We are both Irish.

Carol, we moved in January from a village to the edge of a city. The cities are generally cramped. Most people don't live in homes but high rise apartments. Usually they are quite ugly. We are fortunate to have found a duplex to live in this time. For several years we lived in a high rise apartment such as those pictured here. We are still trying to find a place to buy but the laws make it difficult for foreigners to own a home.

    Betty,
Only Europeans go topless. Turks are much more modest. We have only visited beaches with tourists occasionally and when we do, my husband takes off his glasses so he can't see. :)

Stacy, I'm so happy to hear you have found someone who educates like you do. It is so nice to have a common bond with another rather than going it alone.

Thanks for all the kind comments.

Nice site - really takes me back. My husband and I lived in Izmir, Turkey from 1990-1993. He was stationed the with the military. Loved, loved our time there.

On this day 14 years ago (June 13), I gave birth to our first child in Incirlik, Turkey. So finding your site was great timing.

We traveled a great deal and loved the water, the food, the rugs, the copper but most of all the people of this wondedful nation. I would love to take all my children back to experience this country where so much of the New Testament was written from.

    Blessings to you,

    Linda,
I LOVE the glasses idea!! GREAT!!! My dh wears glasses, but not my sons. We don't go to the beach here at all. There is a family friendlier lagoon beach but even there it's been a problem.

So, the Lord has allowed us to travel with my dh's work to the west coast of FL where there are more retirees and older people and that's when we enjoy the water. We also have a pool, so that's nice. When we go on vacation, we usually end up going somewhere where there's forest--we are tree deprived here in Miami due to hurricanes and development. How great to see the Lord's mercies to us in every circumstance!

    Grace & Peace,
    Betty

  19. Wow, Linda Fay! It has been too long since I came to escape at your blog. What a neat field trip. I don't think any of ours can compare.

I need to reset my email sub - which has been defunked by your blog move. :( Sorry I'm so slow! :) Have missed you.
