Current Events News Source

I have finally found a current events news source for my junior high schoolers that I really like. Student News Daily provides a daily news article, news issue, biased item in which the student must discover where the bias is located within an article, commentary and a few other goodies. There is also a quiz at the end of the week for those who choose to use them. My daughter just writes a 'notes narration' for each news article. This site is safe for teens and endorsed by HSLDA.

There are a few other website that provide student news but I have found them to be from a non biblical worldview promoting a particular agenda. I appreciate that this site, although conservative in nature, is not afraid to point out conservative bias as well as liberal. Previously, I proofread news websites and blogs via bloglines and checked off the articles I wanted my daughter to read. This took so much time. I will continue to have her read important articles that I come across- those that will help her understanding of current affairs, but the pressure is off of me to scour the web.

one step at a time...

Amazing you should post about this as I was looking at options for my son last night. I had come to the conclusion that we would download what we thought would be appropriate and then let him choose what he thought interesting. I will look up the site you mention.

Thank you for that timely post!

  2. Thank you! This has been a huge struggle in our home. We used to subscribe to the World Mag for kids, but it just wasn't in the budget this year. This site is a blessing.
