You knew it? Inconceivable!

Yes. Yes! It was THE PRINCESS BRIDE. You are all just so smart... and cultured! Ahem...
This story is one of our family's all time favorites. We had a ball while practicing for six weeks together.

My four year old played the part of Westley, the hero. He memorized all his lines word for word from the movie. He was hilarious. We took out the 'Rodents of unusual size' scene and the torture scene since he wasn't allowed to watch that part, but we kept almost everything else. At one point when he was climbing up the cliff with a rope, he said, "This is not as easy as it looks. So I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't extract me." (He should have said 'distract' but didn't know that) He was so funny! It was even more funny to watch him correct his daddy when he forgot his lines as Inigo Montoya. He also insisted that the accent be a certain way.

My oldest daughter played the impressive clergyman. "Mawidge. Mawidge is what bwings us togever today. Mawidge, that bwessed awangement, that dweam wiffim a dweam..." She absolutely refused to let me post a picture of her dressed in robe and cone paper hat.

Our nine year old was Viccini, the villain. She also memorized every line from the movie and used that irritating voice of his. "He didn't fall? Inconceivable!"

Of course Princess Buttercup, Fezzik, Count Rugen, Prince Humperdinck, the gatekeeper and a narrator made appearances too.

We strung a curtain across one wall of our living room and in between each scene we played music from the soundtrack. Afterwards, we served refreshments to the guests and watched the movie. It was a most memorable evening. Okay, okay. I'll stop gushing now.

one step at a time...

  1. I would've never guessed that! What fun. My kids would balk at doing Shakespeare, but movies? Now that's a different story.
Thanks for your kind comment on my blog.
